What is a Davis Hill’s Word of Truth Outreach Deacon?
Deacons are Christian servants who are asked by the church to serve in maintaining the unity, integrity, and usefulness of the ministries of the church.
What is the Role of a Deacon at DHWOTO
- Serve in all humility to guide, direct, guard, pray and care for the members of the church, seeking to meet their spiritual needs including those matters of church discipline and reconciliation
- maintain personal contact with assigned individuals or families
- pray regularly for specific needs of those families
- keep the church staff aware of ministry needs within the church family
What are the Qualifications of a Deacon at DHWOTO
Deacons should be servant leaders and role models as outlined in Acts 6: 1-6 and I Timothy 3:8-13.
The scriptures are interpreted in light of the total message of the Bible. We do not believe that women or divorced persons should be excluded from service as a deacon. In addition to the scriptural guidance, deacons should:
- Must be a member of DHWOTO
- Show evidence of spiritual maturity, Christian character, and a moral and ethical lifestyle
- Have good reputation and be respected in church and community
- Be sound in doctrine, having genuine faith in Jesus Christ which is nurtured by Bible study, prayer and worship
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to serve in needed areas of the church
- Be faithful to and responsible in family life, creating a home environment where Jesus is Lord
- Be supportive of the pastor and the church staff as well as the worship, ministry and organizational life of the church
- Demonstrate responsible stewardship of possessions, giving at least a tithe through DHWOTO
- Be willing to attend meetings regularly and participate fully in the deacon body
